Benny’s S.O.S: Creating Calm in the Crescent City
Benny’s Sensory On-Site Spaces—affectionately known as the S.O.S—is a mission-driven project of the Beignet Fest Foundation, created to support and empower individuals on the autism spectrum and others with sensory sensitivities.
Turning Up the Joy, Turning Down the Noise
For many, the vibrant energy of New Orleans festivals and events can be overwhelming. The sights, sounds, and crowds that make our city so lively can also create sensory overload. That’s why the Beignet Fest Foundation, with support from New Orleans & Co. and a portion of the proceeds from Beignet Fest, provides Benny’s S.O.S at events throughout the year—ensuring more inclusive, sensory-friendly experiences for all.
A Safe Space to Reset
Benny’s S.O.S is free and open to the public at designated events, offering kids and families a welcoming space to step away, breathe, and re-center before returning to the fun – offering a quiet, calming environment where individuals can take a break and reset before rejoining the festivities. The space is designed with sensory-friendly features to help soothe and engage users, including:
Bringing Inclusion to New Orleans Events
New Orleans is built on community, culture, and celebration, and everyone should have the opportunity to experience it fully. Benny’s S.O.S ensures that individuals with sensory sensitivities can participate in meaningful ways, without feeling overwhelmed.
We also provide sensory bags to families who need them, including:
